In October 2022, the Institut für Löffel und Speisen (Institute for Spoons and Meals) was established at the Lüdertalschile in Großenlüder. Here I experimented with pupils and teachers on different spoon dishes and together we designed, modeled and produced spoon prototypes.
Preparing the spoon dishes in the teaching kitchen was the students' first cooking experience.
At the institute, it was important to understand art as a mobile, participatory practice that breaks down boundaries with everyday life and the environment. Approachability is just as important as creating a sense of community, for example by working, cooking and celebrating together.
The book “Von Löffeln lernen" (Learning from spoons) is the artistic continuation of the Institut für Löffel und Speisen and was published in 2023.
It combines various life experiences of different actors from the school and the location. Interviews with a teacher, the resident manager of the local ice cream parlor and ChatGPT were shown alongside project documentations, thus searching for commonalities and boundaries of visual and mediating art. Working methods and the best ways to prepare spaghetti ice cream will also be discussed.
